There’s something about a sleeping baby that makes everyone want to sneak a peek, even though we know better than to disturb a peaceful nap. And apparently, that temptation isn’t limited to humans.

For one gorgeous ginger Maine Coon, his new Dachshund puppy sibling was simply too adorable to leave alone. As the little pup snoozed in his cozy bed, the curious kitty couldn’t resist reaching in to give the baby a few taps. And the sweetness of the moment is almost too much to handle.

You can see their adorable interaction in this October 21 Instagram post from UFC fighter Maryna Moroz (@maryna_moroz_ufc).

Maine Coon’s Gentle Touch With Sleeping Dachshund Puppy Is Too Sweet

What a gentle giant this beautiful kitty is! The little Dachshund puppy is curled up in the fluffy bed, completely oblivious to the enormous orange sibling hovering nearby. But what really melts my heart is this Maine Coon’s gentleness as he carefully reaches over the edge of the bed and taps the puppy almost as if to see if the baby is really sleeping.

In the final photo, this majestic kitty has apparently decided that if he can’t play with this little one just yet, he’ll stand guard beside the bed until the baby wakes up.

Instagram viewers were charmed by the duo, though some couldn’t help wondering whether the kitty was being affectionate or just trying to reclaim his favorite sleeping spot.

“Ooohhh excuse me. That is my bed. Haha. Poor cat,” joked @svetlanajosipovic.

Another viewer couldn’t get over the tenderness of the moment, writing, “The kitten taking care of the puppy is too much.”

And @nellymarino had one very important reminder for the curious kitty: “DON’T DISTURB THE BABY.”

Can Cats and Puppies Become Best Friends?

Research says yes, especially in a household like this one. A Tel Aviv University study, highlighted by Burgess Pet Care, found that cats and dogs can learn to read each other’s body language, and that the age at which they meet makes a big difference. They’re also more likely to get along when the cat arrives first, which gives this Maine Coon and his little puppy a promising head start.

Whether he’s keeping watch, hoping for a cuddle, or patiently waiting to reclaim his bed, there’s no denying how adorable these two look together.

Perhaps this clever kitty already understands something every parent knows: A well-rested baby is a whole lot more fun to play with than one who’s missed their nap!
