The Thunder announced Monday that they'll retire Russell Westbrook's jersey on Feb. 7 during a home game against the New York Knicks.

General manager Sam Presti made the announcement at Oklahoma City's Day One Luncheon on Monday with Westbrook on stage. Westbrook wiped back tears when the announcement was made.

The Thunder then released a video montage celebrating Westbrook's moments with the franchise.

"Many players make an impact but only great players leave a legacy," Presti said, via a team statement . "Russell Westbrook's legacy was built both on the court and in the community."

Westbrook was a member of the Thunder from the beginning. He was drafted by the Seattle SuperSonics with the No. 4 pick in 2008, weeks before the franchise officially moved to Oklahoma City and became the Thunder.

Not including previously retired Sonics jerseys, Nick Collison's No. 4 is the only other jersey that the Thunder have retired.

Westbrook played 11 of his his 18 NBA seasons with the Thunder from 2008-19, including his 2016-17 NBA MVP campaign. He made eight of his nine All-Star teams and earned eight of his nine All-NBA selections with Oklahoma City.

Westbrook is the NBA's all-time triple-double king. He became the first player since Oscar Robertson to average a triple-double during his MVP season and did so three more times throughout his career. His 209 triple-doubles are the most all time.

Westbrook retired from the NBA in August having also played for the Wizards, Lakers, Clippers, Nuggets and Kings. But he's most closely associated with elevating a Thunder franchise to championship contention alongside Kevin Durant, James Harden and Serge Ibaka.

From that core, he remains the most beloved in the Oklahoma City community. Now his jersey will have a permanent place in the Thunder's rafters.
